Alfred University is looking for approximately four to eight Lifeguards, under general supervision, to ensure the safety of patrons at an outdoor waterfront/recreation area by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Rate: $16.00 per hour

Responsibilities:
  • Provide secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
  • Present professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintain a high standard of customer service
  • Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Provide information to visitors with Foster Lake Access
Requirements:
  • Current certifications by a New York State recognized source of training in Professional Rescuer CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding required, Waterfront Lifeguarding preferred:
    • Should have reliable transportation and cell/smart phone
    • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
    • Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment lifeguarding and CPR skills evaluation as stipulated by the manager
    • Regularly practice skills throughout the lifeguarding season
    • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork
    • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures
    • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
    • Knowledge of customer service
    • Ability to maneuver a watercraft with oars or paddle
    • Must be willing and able to swim in an outdoor water environment
    • Must be willing to spend time in the outdoors, interact with potential wildlife, and be exposed to inclement weather conditions at times
    • Preference will be given to those over 18 years of age due to work requirements
