The Division of Ceramic Art at the School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, is seeking candidates for a full-time Assistant Professor position of Ceramics beginning in the fall 2025. Application deadline is January 5th, 2025.
The successful candidate will be motivated to join a faculty team working across and at the intersections of ceramic research in fine art, craft, and design. A successful candidate will be immersed in ceramic art as a core part of their practice, have a clear dedication to working as an educator with a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and may be at any stage in their career. Experience and creative practice employing other materials or crossing over into other disciplines is fully supported but the candidate's teaching will emphasize their foundation in ceramic material and contribute to expanding education in ceramic methodologies at Alfred. At the graduate level, candidates need not be fluent in every technical realm but will have the conceptual competency to support the full diversity of directions graduate students explore in their studio practice. Additionally, we encourage applications from studio artists with any of the following competencies or interests: craft/art/cultural theory; writing /publishing; glaze
chemistry/material science; digital methodologies/technologies; program conceptualizing and building. We invite applicants from across the globe.
The Division of Ceramic Art, School of Art and Design has a distinguished history as a premier institution for education in the arts and fosters a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary environment for research and practice. Comprised of six full time faculty, a teaching fellowship, a rotating international chair and three full time technicians, the scope of the Division of Ceramic Art is wide ranging, embracing history and innovation, tradition and emerging forms of visual art. The material intensive curriculum develops skill and intellect through theory, technological research and creative practice. Undergraduate and graduate programs are strongly intertwined. In our two-year MF A program graduate students navigate wide-ranging practices in the visual arts. The School of Art and Design at Alfred University is an accredited member of NASAD, with 33 full-time faculty serving more than 400 students. The School is unique among institutions of higher education with an open curriculum, allowing a robust and diverse experience in studio art, design, and art history courses. Salary: $58,000-$62,000 Annually
