The position is housed within the Marketing and Communications unit and will be responsible for strategic development and execution of marketing and communication to support the university's undergraduate and graduate student enrollment and recruitment goals. The position will primarily support The Office of Enrollment Management (EM) at Alfred University. The EM unit comprises the offices of financial aid, student recruitment, and admissions. The Director will lead and oversee a comprehensive marketing program encompassing the targeted outreach of all the functional units of EM in coordination with the Marketing and Communications team. The Director will have regular contact with the offices of School and College Deans and other members of academic units. 

The Director will collaborate with a team of marketing and communications professionals who operate in a fast-paced environment that delivers a wide variety of high-quality outreach and engagement efforts including print collateral, direct mail, emails, website content, event support, etc. They are the liaison with the team of Enrollment Management to lead the development of advertising content and strategy, website content, and social media efforts. The Director provides strategic communication counsel to the VP and other leaders and assists with internal and external communications for the unit. 

As the University's principal content development manager working in the Marketing and Communications unit, the Director will collaborate with a team of creative professionals responsible for supporting the reputation and advancement of the University with the disciplines of advertising, graphic design, admissions-related material and web page development, social media, event planning and support, videography, and photography. 

The Director will work with campus administrators, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community to develop ideas that tell the many compelling stories of the significant impact on the world that results from receiving an education at Alfred University. 

Salary:$70,000-$75,000 Annually

Essential Duties:
  • Develop, execute, and evaluate a strategic enrollment marketing and communications plan to support student enrollment goals
  • Support the student experience using multi-faceted enrollment communication strategies
  • Integrate effectively with the University Enrollment Management team to implement creative campaigns to boost yield of new students
  • In coordination with the VPMC, provide operational leadership in communication strategy to support the strategic initiatives of EM, including recruitment, admissions, and student financial assistance
  • Responsible for providing research, insights, strategic action plan analysis, market trend evaluation, and understanding behavioral insights of prospective and current students to enhance marketing and enrollment success
  • In coordination with the EM and Marketing teams, develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies across multiple platforms to build awareness and enhance the reputation of Alfred University
  • Plan the development of content with team members for video, photography, and other design outputs, and for use in social media, on the website and digital marketing campaigns
  • Coordinate with departments across campus to develop promotional communications products
  • Work well with all members of the Marcom team to conceptualize and produce high­-quality content for social media, digital marketing, email, video, web content, and marketing collateral
  • Identify and research potential stories and align them with institutional priorities
  • Be able to juggle competing priorities with a positive and solutions-focused demeanor
  • Create advertisements to run in the digital and traditional spaces and help direct marketing campaigns
  • Assist the Vice President to manage freelance relationships and workflows
  • Follow and enforce brand marketing guidelines when using trademarks, logos, and University design standards
  • Measure the success of marketing campaigns to demonstrate an effective return on the investment; manage metrics dashboards to share with campus stakeholders (e.g., Cabinet, Executive Council, Board of Trustees)
  • Support campus marketing plans to align with the University's strategic plan and brand strategy and achieve annual operating plan goals, e.g., primarily supporting the Student Experience
  • Work well within Alfred University's culture of collaboration and inclusivity
  • Serve as a high-value team member and campus ambassador, supporting the mission of the Marcom unit of the University
  • Provide responsible updates to EM partners on the progress of each project and stage of development. Responsibly advise of any unexpected changes in project status
  • This position reports to the Vice President for Marketing and Communications and serves as the liaison to the Office of Enrollment Management
Qualifications-Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
  • Must have strong experience in the university admissions process
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, integrated marketing, public relations, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or enrollment management
  • Must be a creative storyteller with a keen eye and ear to engage audiences with distinct and relevant content that elevates the visibility and appreciation for Alfred University
  • Demonstrated professional leadership and experience, backed by a portfolio of video and other marketing work that shows expertise in content creation and distribution
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (Slate preferred), content management systems, digital marketing platforms, and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics)
  • Proven capability using Adobe Creative Suite and content management systems
  • Experience using a digital asset management platform (Libris, SmugMug, other)
  • Strong experience using social media channels to create and manage posts and monitor for activity; demonstrated proficiency developing and using performance metrics dashboards
  • Strong understanding of SEO concepts and content marketing experience
  • Experience with email marketing, including copy, design, delivery, and implementation
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, senior leadership, and external partners to achieve shared objectives
  • Ability to foster creativity and innovation within the team to develop engaging and effective marketing and communication materials
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data-driven decision-making and outcomes assessment
  • Basic HTML or CSS, and Microsoft Office skills
  • Able to manage deadlines with a positive, solutions-focused attitude, and to adjust to changing priorities with grace
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication and research skills
  • Leverage admissions insight data to refine brand messaging for all campaign activity
  • Identify brand-building opportunities for Alfred University
  • Support the positive, collaborative culture of the campus and within the Marcom and EM units
