The Senior Institutional Research Analyst serves as Alfred University's primary institutional research professional and the central source for institutional data and reporting requests. Reporting to the Provost, the position works with a high degree of independence to manage the University's institutional reporting portfolio, including federal, state, accreditation, and other external reporting requirements. The analyst develops recurring and ad hoc analyses, maintains reporting calendars and documentation, and partners with offices across the University to ensure the accuracy and integrity of institutional data used for reporting and analysis. The analyst collaborates closely with the Provost and other University leaders to provide the research and analyses that support institutional planning, assessment, accreditation, and operational decision-making.  

Compensation: $74,549 - $78,841 annually, 35 Hours per week, exempt

Essential Functions
  • Collects, organizes, analyzes, interprets, and reports institutional data to support university operations, planning, accreditation, and decision-making.
  • Serves as the University's central resource for institutional data and reporting requests.
  • Coordinates and completes required federal, state, accreditation, and other external reporting, including IPEDS, SUNY, MSCHE, NYS HEDS, and other required submissions.
  • Produces and maintains recurring institutional publications and reports, including the University Fact Book.
  • Develops and maintains institutional reporting procedures, documentation, and data definitions to promote consistency, accuracy, and integrity of institutional data.
  • Maintains institutional data files and reporting archives, ensuring information is accurate, secure, current, and readily accessible.
  • Develops recurring reports, dashboards, and ad hoc analyses to support institutional priorities and information needs.
  • Conducts comparative and benchmarking analyses using external higher education data sources to support university initiatives and planning.
  • Provides consultation to administrators, faculty, and staff on research design, survey methodology, data analysis, reporting, and interpretation of institutional data.
  • Collaborates with university administrators to develop meaningful performance indicators, assessment measures, and reporting approaches that support institutional effectiveness.
  • Assists with the collection, analysis, and reporting of institutional assessment results and accreditation evidence.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve institutional reporting processes and data quality through collaboration with campus offices.
  • Manages multiple reporting projects and deadlines while ensuring compliance with external reporting requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
  • Works as a collaborative team member contributing effectively to team projects
  • Independently manages recurring institutional reports and external reporting obligations, ensuring their accurate and timely completion
  • Supports decision-making through providing relevant data and analysis
  • Responsive to requests from university constituents, effectively prioritizing requests, and completing in a timely manner
  • Supports and assists in creating intersections for faculty, staff and students that will assist in transforming people’s lives.
  • Supports and assists in creating an evolving culture of mentoring and rich engagement opportunities for faculty, staff, and students.

Qualifications - Education & Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate academic discipline with coursework or experience in quantitative research methods and statistics is preferred. Bachelors required.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in institutional research, higher education data analysis, institutional effectiveness, or a related analytical field in preferred
  • Experience using Ellucian Banner strongly preferred; Experience with Slate, Navigate, DegreeWorks or similar higher education information systems is desirable
  • Experience developing performance indicators, institutional metrics, and assessment reporting is desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in data collection, analysis, interpretation, reporting, database management, and communicating analytical findings to a variety of audiences
  • Experience preparing federal or state higher education reports (IPEDS, state reporting, accreditation, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and reporting deadlines independently.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and experience with SQL or other data query languages preferred
  • Experience developing dashboards or data visualizations (Power BI, Tableau, Argos, Cognos, etc.) preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to non-technical audiences
  • On-campus work is preferred. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered.

Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required. A respiratory function test and the ability to use respirators may be required. Stairs and uneven surfaces may be present; artificial lifts, etc. may or may not be available. The position may require the incumbent to walk outdoors in all types of weather to other buildings or offices located on the campus. The Campus is located in an area that contains numerous hills and slopes and may not always be fully accessible for mobility impaired individuals.
