The purpose of this position is to provide nursing care to the students of Alfred University. Care may include the following, although not limited to performing routine medical office procedures and testing, administration of medications, scheduling appointments, student education, referrals, and follow-up care. This position has been evaluated for compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and is subject to premium pay for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a payroll week. 

Compensation:  $29.62 - $31.33 per hour


Essential Functions 

Essential Clinical Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Assesses student, recognizes the need for and performs routine office procedures, in accordance with standing policies and procedures.
  • Consults with or provides referral to a higher level provider (NP, PA or MD) when indicated.
  • Assists the Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
  • Identifies student medical needs/health education needs, provides instructions, or timely and appropriate referrals.
  • Documents assessments, observations, care given, and student outcomes in the medical record accurately and legibly.
  • Administers treatments (Ex: nebulizer) according to policy and procedure.
  • Applies various apparatus and uses all equipment safely.
  • Administers the allergy injections program with the established policy and procedure.
  • Performs confidential HIV testing and counseling.
  • Administers medications safely, knowing drug classifications, actions, usual doses, and side effects.
  • Demonstrates competency in venipuncture and preparing/labeling lab studies for transport to lab.
  • Provides triage of presenting students.
  • Recognizes and performs competently in emergency situations.
  • Follows Infection control Policies and Procedures.
Essential Operations Duties and Responsibilities
  • Communicates effectively with the health care team to improve student health care.
  • Reviews health history of incoming health forms and refers to appropriate staff/departments or develops student care plan.
  • Demonstrates student advocacy, assuring students right to privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures, and internal/external disaster plans and procedures
  • Maintains inventory of clinical supplies and replenishes inventory as needed.
  • Maintains a collaborative environment with other hospitals/Alfred University departments.
  • Follows the established policies and procedures and implements Registered Nursing Standards of Care.
  • Independently performs assigned duties and responsibilities and seeks educational opportunities for professional growth, sharing information with other staff members as appropriate.
  • Acts as a role model in all aspects of public conduct with students and staff within the Health Center and community.
  • Attends weekly staff meetings.
  • Participates in the orientation of new employees.
  • Participates in the Crandall Health Center's Quality Improvement Process.
  • Demonstrates computer proficiency.
  • Assists in scheduling students, answering phones, making follow-up appointments, scheduling tests, etc.
  • Assists in the review and/or creation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for checking expiration dates on medications, lab and clinical supplies.
  • Participates in Alfred University student related open houses and Student Affair committees.
  • Collaborates with Residence Life in maintaining first aid kits for the Residence Halls.
  • Maintains updated pharmaceutical monographs.
  • Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS} information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment.
  • Safety: Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
  • Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned

  • Supports and assists in creating intersections for faculty, staff and students that will assist in transforming people's lives.
  • Supports and assists in creating an evolving culture of mentoring and rich engagement opportunities for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Maintains a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competence and respect for a wide range of identities and experiences, therefore welcoming and supporting all faculty, staff and students and expanding access to the AU experience.

  • Participates in all required assigned training, including safety training and will comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an undergraduate degree (AAS or BSN) in nursing or accredited RN diplima program. Must have a current state license and current CPR certification.
  • Minimum of one year experience
